FAO global meat price index rises 10.4% in 2022

Meat prices around the globe rose 10.4% in 2022, according to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). The global price index for these products reached an average of 118.9 points, the highest since 1990.

Chicken meat prices had an increase of around 19%, the highest rise in the year. Pork and beef had a practically similar evolution, with increases of 7.75% and 7.47%, respectively, in 2022.

In December, the index fell 1.2% when compared to November, to 113.8 points – the sixth consecutive monthly drop. Against December 2021, however, the index rose 2,5 %.

The decline in the last month of the year was driven by the reduction in global prices of beef and poultry, partially offset by the increase in pork and lamb prices.
