South Africa to start beef exports to Saudi Arabia in 2023

South Africa should begin exporting beef to Saudi Arabia in 2023 after the countries reached a new deal earlier this month.

The agreement will see South African beef producers ship off up to 1,000 tons of meat to the Middle Eastern country every year.

The beef industry, which according to the South African Red Meat Producers’ Organization, exports 4% of its production, will get a boost from the market entry.

The deal would make Saudi Arabia one of South Africa’s largest beef export markets, according to members of the country’s delegation on a state visit to Ryiad.

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between the two governments in the fields of agriculture, fisheries and aquaculture.

The two nations signed a series of 16 additional agreements worth more than USD 15 billion including the meat deal – other deals were signed in the renewable energy, industry, mining, tourism, and logistics sectors.
