Beef production in Uruguay could reach record levels in 2022. According to the USDA’s quarterly estimate, Uruguayans could reach 615,000 tons, the second highest volume ever recorded by the country.
As Uruguay recovers from the Covid-19 pandemic – with most of the population vaccinated, the return to restaurants and the reduction of restrictions at the borders to encourage tourism – domestic consumption is recovering and is projected to be 160 thousand tons this year.
Exports, on the other hand, should move 490,000 tons, driven by the increase in supply, strong external demand, and limited exports from other important competitors.
