Egypt opens market for Brazilian bone-in beef

Egypt has opened its market for the import of another Brazilian product, bone-in beef. The African country already imports Brazilian boneless beef and live cattle, according to trade data released by the Arab-Brazilian Chamber of Commerce, and in March had opened its market for meat, meat products, and offal from Brazilian goats and sheep.

With this authorization, Brazilian agribusiness achieved its 91st market opening of the year, according to the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In total, there have been 169 openings in 56 destinations since the beginning of last year.

According to the Brazilian Association of Meat Exporting Industries (Abiec), most of the fresh beef exported by Brazil is boneless, representing 88% of the total. Bone-in beef still has restricted access to some countries.

Trade Relations

Egypt has been growing as a trade partner for Brazil, especially in agribusiness. In 2023, the country was the sixth-largest destination for Brazilian boneless beef exports, with 71.2 thousand tons – equivalent to USD 261.8 million.

This year, data compiled by the Arab-Brazilian Chamber of Commerce show a 72.2% increase in trade between Brazil and Egypt in the first half of the year, reaching $2 billion. Of this amount, USD 1.67 billion is Brazilian exports, and USD 376.3 million is Egyptian exports to Brazil.
