China greenlights new Uruguayan meat exporters

China authorized 27 Uruguayan companies to export frozen bone meat cuts to the country, in what Montevideo described as an achievement that strengthens the relationship between the two countries.

According to the Union of Exporters of Uruguay (UEU), China was again the main destination for Uruguayan exports in 2022, among which meat is the most sold product. The new 27 beneficiaries are added to the more than 30 existing ones.

According to a note from the Uruguayan Chancellery, the most recent achievement is the result of joint efforts, which also involved private traders and the Ministry of Livestock.

Beef exports from Uruguay increased rapidly last year as the South American country filled the gap left by Argentina in some external markets.

Uruguayan beef exports grew constantly in the second half of the year, reaching 45,000 tons in December – a record figure for the country’s beef industry.
