Brazilian poultry and pork production and exports are expected to close the year with growth and continue expanding in 2025. The forecast comes from the Brazilian Animal Protein Association (ABPA), which attributes the growth to the competitiveness of these proteins in the domestic market and strong external demand.
The finalized November numbers support this estimate: double-digit growth was observed in the export volumes of both poultry and pork compared to the previous year.
In total, ABPA projects poultry production to reach between 14.9 million and 15 million tons in 2024, compared to 14.83 million tons in 2023. For 2025, ABPA anticipates a total between 15.2 million and 15.3 million tons.
Poultry exports are expected to total 5.3 million tons in 2024, up from 5.14 million tons last year, reaching 5.4 million tons in 2025. Meanwhile, per capita consumption in Brazil is estimated at 45.6 kilograms in 2024, up from 45.1 kilograms in 2023 – in 2025, it is expected to reach 46.6 kilograms.
“The Brazilian economic scenario should sustain internal market consumption levels, supported by the sector’s continued competitiveness,” said ABPA President Ricardo Santin. “On the external front, new market openings in Central America and African countries are expected, as well as increased shipments to other Latin American and Asian nations, which should enhance the diversification of destinations for our products.”
Pork
ABPA projects a 3.8% increase in Brazil’s pork production in 2024, reaching approximately 5.35 million tons. Production is expected to rise to 5.45 million tons in 2025.
Total exports in 2024 are estimated to reach 1.35 million tons, up from 1.23 million tons shipped in 2023. For 2025, ABPA expects pork exports to increase further, to 1.45 million tons.
“In the external market, there is an expectation of improved flows to China, as well as the habilitation of new plants for Latin American destinations. These factors will add to the continued demand from pre-listed markets such as the Philippines and Chile,” said Santin.
In the domestic market, per capita pork consumption is expected to grow to 19 kilograms in 2024, compared to 18.3 kilograms in 2023, and remain stable in 2025.
