Brazil’s beef exports hit record high in April

Brazil exported 236,842 tons of beef in April, the highest monthly volume ever recorded in the country’s exports – representing a 77.4% increase compared to the same month in 2023. Revenue reached USD 1.043 billion, placing the month among the best in terms of results.

The data comes from the Ministry of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services (MDIC) and was compiled by the Brazilian Association of Meat Exporting Industries (Abiec).

China was the main destination for Brazilian beef in April, purchasing 101 thousand tons and generating USD 454 million in revenue. The United Arab Emirates followed, buying 23.7 thousand tons, resulting in USD 109.7 million in revenue for the Brazilian export industry. Hong Kong, the third main destination, imported 11.3 thousand tons of Brazilian beef (USD 36.6 million in revenue).

From January to April, Brazilian beef exports totaled 835.3 thousand tons, 37.2% more than the same period last year, generating USD 3.7 billion in revenue.

According to Abiec’s executive president, Antônio Jorge Camardelli, the diversification of markets and exported products continues in the sector. “China has been purchasing an average of 95 thousand tons per month, confirming itself as a major partner for Brazil, but other markets have also seen an increase in the average volume shipped this year,” he reported.

On average in 2024, the United Arab Emirates bought more than triple the volume of 2023, totaling 64,787 tons between January and April, with revenue of USD 298.2 million. Shipments to Algeria amounted to 20,287 tons, generating USD 92.7 million in revenue.

Shipments to the Philippines reached 19,411 tons in the quarter, with revenue of USD 68.03 million. With recent new approvals, increasing volumes are expected in the coming months.

Mexico was another significant highlight, according to Camardelli. “The country is among those that have recently approved the trade of beef with Brazil, and in four months, shipments have already totaled 12,428 tons this year,” he highlighted.

Exports to markets such as Chile, Russia, Israel, Libya, Jordan, Lebanon, among others, have also increased this year.
