Brazil will remain the global leader in beef and poultry exports in 2024, according to the latest report from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).
Beef shipments are expected to total 2.93 million tons this year – slightly below the 2.97 million estimated in January, but still 1% above the 2023 figures.
“Steady demand from major trading partners, such as the United States, the United Arab Emirates, and the Philippines, will likely offset weaker demand from China,” says the USDA.
Brazilian beef production in 2024 is expected to increase by 2% compared to 2023, to 11.2 million tons, driven by strong export demand and low cattle prices motivating slaughters.
The projection for poultry exports is 5 million tons this year, 4% above the figure recorded in 2023, in a scenario of strong global demand. Production is expected to increase by 1%, to 15.1 million tons.
“Brazilian plants continue to be free of bird flu, which allows shipments to flow without commercial restrictions,” the report says. “By continuing to focus on halal markets and increasing product diversity, Brazil will be able to make gains in a wide range of markets.”
The USDA expects Brazil to export 1.49 million tons of pork in 2024, 5% above 2023. Production is projected to increase by 4% to 4.6 million tons, as producers continue to benefit from the lowest production costs among global exporters.
