Brazil’s fresh beef exports in September 2024 are about to reach a historic record, according to data from the Foreign Trade Secretariat (Secex) of the Ministry of Development, Industry, Trade, and Services (MDIC).
In the first three weeks of the month, 185.5 thousand tons were exported, with a daily average of 12.4 thousand tons, surpassing the daily average of 9.7 thousand tons recorded in September 2023 by 28%.
At this pace, Brazil is expected to close the month with more than 247 thousand tons of fresh beef exported, which would represent a new monthly record for the sector. Last year, during the 20 business days of September, the country exported 195 thousand tons.
According to the Agrifatto consultancy, the export results are in line with expectations and confirm that September 2024 will likely be recorded as the highest export month in history, with around 240 thousand tons.
It is also worth mentioning that the opening of new markets to Brazilian animal protein this month is helping to drive business growth. Papua New Guinea, the second most populous country in Oceania, has approved sanitary certificates for the import of Brazilian poultry meat, mechanically separated chicken meat, and boneless beef cuts.
With this opening, the Brazilian meat industry will now have access to a market of about 10 million people. According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAPA), the Brazilian government began negotiations for access to the Papua New Guinea market for poultry meat in 2020 and for beef in 2022.
