ABPA estimates an increase in the production and export of chicken and pork meat in 2023

The production and export of Brazilian chicken and pork meat should increase in 2023, according to estimates from the Brazilian Association of Animal Protein (ABPA).

ABPA expects Brazilian chicken meat production to increase by up to 2% in 2023, reaching 14.75 million tons, compared to the projection between 14.4 and 14.5 million tons for 2022.

The per capita consumption of the product should return to 45.5 kg, a value registered in 2021, after falling to 45.1 kg in 2022.

Chicken meat exports are expected to increase by 8.4% (to 5.2 million tons) in 2023, after reaching around 4.85 million in 2022.

Pork production is estimated at 5.15 million tons in 2023, compared to approximately 5 million in 2022.

Shipments of the product are expected to rise by up to 12%, to 1.25 million tons in 2023. For 2022, ABPA estimates that Brazil closed the year with a total of 1.12 million tons in pork exports – down from 1.14 million tons exported in 2021.

Consumption per capita is expected to rise to 18.5 kg this year, after reaching 18 kg in 2022 – already a strong increase from the 16.7 kg registered in 2021.
